Organoleptic properties appearance: clear liquid color: amber yellow scent: fresh, sweet citrusy; it blends well with Bergamot, Cardamom, Cypress, African Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Lemongrass, Rosemary and spicy essential oils. Major constituents: limonene, myrcene, pinene, cadinene, paradisiol, neral, geraniol, sinesal and esters, coumarin and furanocoumarin.
Uses In aromatherapy: grapefruit essential oil is a potent stimulator and tonic, able to reinvigorate when energy and concentration levels are low; diffused into the atmosphere it stimulates concentration and attention, transmitting positivity; ideal for an energizing, anti-stress bath and for invigorating, firming massages; it can be diluted into vegetable oils alone or in synergy with other essential oils (such as lemon, and juniper berry) and massaged into the legs from the ankle upwards to favor a draining and invigorating action and for anti-cellulite treatment. By virtue of its sebo-balancing and dermo-purifying properties, it can be added to facial cream to treat acne and blocked pores, and give the skin a revitalized and radiant appearance.
Recommended doses massages: 2-3% solution in a carrier oil (40-60 drops in 100 ml, or 5-6 drops in a spoonful for on-the-spot preparation) suitable for most areas of the body; 1% solution in a carrier oil or base cream (20 drops in 100 ml, or 2 drops in a spoonful for on-the-spot preparation) for delicate areas of the body and delicate skin types; aromatic baths: 15 drops in 3 spoonfuls of honey, natural marine salt or neutral liquid soap; airborne: 10 drops in a fragrance lamp or diffuser.
In cosmetics: it is used for its perfuming/flavoring, antiseptic, healing and invigorating properties.
applications: as a fragrance component in perfumes, soaps, and cleansers; it is indicated for use in preparations for oily and impure skin types due to its astringent and rebalancing action on excessive sebum production; it favors the circulation, it invigorates, firms, and detoxifies the skin and tissue, this makes it suitable for after-workout, fatigue-relieving and anti-cellulite products.
recommended doses: up to 10-15 drops per every 100 grams of product; add at temperatures below 40°C.
Warning: Grapefruit essential oil increases the skin's photosensitivity, it is therefore advisable to stay out of direct sunlight for a few hours after the application of products that contain it.
